Manurewa Central School - Councillors

Group picture of School Council 2011

Each year eight Year 6 pupils are selected to be school councillors.
Being a school councillor means being a responsible pupil, setting a first rate example, having a positive attitude, helping our fellow pupils, organising activities within our school and raising funds.

To be chosen as a councillor is an honour and a great opportunity to develop our leadership and organisational skills. It brings pride for us and in what we do for our school.

We have fundraised for the South Auckland Hospice, sponsored a child from Starship Hospital, welcomed and thanked visitors to our school and purchased a table tennis table.

Being a school councillor is indeed a privilege for us all.

There were 6 speakers. The first speaker was Nick Tuitasi who discussed his 3 values.

His messages were:

The second speaker was Dillon Boucher from the Breakers and he gave us four really important tips.

  1. Leadership is strength with purpose
  2. To be successful you have to work hard.
  3. If you commit to something you will become good at it
  4. Leadership is choosing to follow your calling

We had morning tea when many of us bought a Halogen pin. The next speakers were Tumehe and Serena and their messages were

Pat Lam (The Auckland Blues’ rugby coach) had 5 key words and they were:

  1. Planning
  2. Purpose
  3. People
  4. Perseverance
  5. Performance

And his messages were:

Then came a performance by the Laughing Samoans and that was funny. Speaker number 5 was Dave Atkinson and he talked about being a leader with these messages …

The final speaker for the day was Pat Buckley and he had some really good messages.

Leadership is doing things differently.

What a great day at the National Young Leaders' Day.
