From the Principal's Pen
Laurie Thew
Principal,
Manurewa Central School
Mr Thew has been working at our school for over 20 years. when he was a child he wanted to become a train driver.
When he was around 11 he wanted to become a pilot so he could travel the world. When he was older he decided to become
a teacher. After he completed teachers' college he started teaching at Robertson Road School. He really enjoyed teaching
children so he decided that if he became a principal he could teach lots of children. That's how he ended up at our school.
There are hard bits about being a principal. One of these is to fit many things into his busy schedule. But as well as having some
downfalls in his job there's lots of good things. These are seeing children succeed and playing with children on the field.
Mr Thew especially enjoys seeing the classes in action. He thinks the big auditorium, the I.C.T. room and library are great.
He likes seeing people playing at lunch using all the equipment provided. The school impresses Mr Thew because of the proud
history, the beautiful gardens, and the support from the community.
Outside of school Mr Thew has a Siamese cat. His hobbies are travelling, reading, jogging and going to the gym. Although he is learning tai-chi he has not yet achieved his goal to be good at it. Mr Thew likes most subjects. Some of his favourite are maths, art, P.E. sport and poetry. One important goal Mr Thew set himself was to be a principal of a good school. He worked hard at university. He worked as a principal and during this time he completed his doctorate. This was a great achievement.
Mr Thew is a hard worker and has a lot of determination. His one wish is for all children to succeed. That's why he's the best principal ever!
