Saturday Hockey
Every year Mrs McHaffie-Green chooses ten children to play in her Saturday Hockey team, the Manurewa Central Chiefs.
Our goal is to stay undefeated!
Every week rain or shine, the support is great from the teachers and parents that come to cheer us on.
OUR HOCKEY REPORT 2010
by Abdulrahman Khalaf and Vishay Prasad
This year Mrs McHaffie-Green, our hockey teacher, organised three different groups of hockey. These were Saturday hockey, after school hockey and the hockey field day.
Saturday hockey was every Saturday and lasted from May to September. There were six teams each with their own captain and colour: Gold - Vishay, Blue - Joseph, Red - Leli, Fluoro - Caroline, Aqua - Mathew and Green - Eucharist.
We had a fantastic prize giving in early September where children got trophies and certificates and there was a delicious sausage sizzle for everyone. Every season just gets better and better.
The hockey field day took place on 21 September and was run by Mrs McHaffie-Green. There were about 108 people in 12 different teams each with their own captains. We all tried hard to win and had a lot of fun. We all had different uniforms and some of us even got injured, but we got better. We all played fairly and scored lots of goals. It was heaps of fun.
After school hockey is where 4 teams of 9 people come to play hockey for half an hour on the artificial turf. We all have to be organised with our mouth guards and shin pads. After about 5 weeks of games we will have semi-finals and see which team comes on top with their skills and speed and then the winners will go into the finals
