Cricket

Each year Manurewa Central School has one or two cricket teams. We play on the new cricket pitch that Mr Dawson arranged to have made in 2003.

We practice at lunchtimes on the cricket pitch with a teacher from our school. If we're lucky we sometimes get to practise with a person from Counties Manukau Cricket Club.

Each year we enter an interschool competition with other teams in Manurewa. We also have a friendly tournament against Hill Park Primary, consisting of three games.

CRICKET REPORT 2010

Cricket is fun. It is my second favourite sport. Our school had a cricket team and I was in it. The captain of our team was Kiani and the vice-captains of our team were Joseph and Mitchell. They were also our opening batsmen.

For the interschool cricket trophy there were 3 different schools - Clendon Park School, Hillpark School and Manurewa Central School. Clendon Park School did well but did not get in the finals. Our team won all the matches except the final match. Manurewa Central got 79 runs and 10 wickets and Hillpark got 109 runs. I was the last bowler for my team and I thought I didn't do a single thing right! Miss McHugh our cricket coach was disappointed for us that day. The Hillpark captain was Nathan and he did really well in both bowling and batting. Our Deputy Principal Miss Lindsay was there the whole time and our principal Mr Thew came to watch us towards the end of the game.
